1 Arrival in Paro — Thimphu
Arrive at Paro International Airport and drive to Thimphu. Visit the Motithang Takin Preserve and Buddha Dordenma viewpoint.
2 Thimphu Sightseeing
Centenary Farmers' Market, National Folk Heritage Museum, National Textile Museum, National Memorial Chorten, Jungshi Paper Factory, Simtokha Dzong and Tashichho Dzong.
3 Thimphu to Punakha
Cross Dochula Pass (3,100m) with 108 chortens and Himalayan panorama. Visit Punakha Dzong and hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten above the Mo Chhu river.
4 Punakha to Bumthang
Drive east through the Black Mountains. Stop at Trongsa Dzong — the ancestral fortress of the royal family — and Chendebji Chorten. Arrive Bumthang by evening.
5 Bumthang — Spiritual Heartland
Kurjey Lhakhang (containing a body-print of Guru Rinpoche), Jambay Lhakhang (7th century), Tamshing Goemba with ancient murals, Jakar Dzong and the Swiss Farm.
6 Trongsa Heritage
Visit the Taa Dzong royal heritage museum in Trongsa, then drive toward Gangtey.
7 Phobjikha Valley
Arrive in the wide glacial bowl of Phobjikha. Visit Gangtey Goemba (17th century) and the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre. Cranes winter here November to March.
8 Phobjikha to Paro
Drive back west to Paro. Visit Paro Dzong and the Ta Dzong National Museum.
9 Tiger's Nest & Ancient Paro
Hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest). Afternoon: Drukgyal Dzong ruins and Kyichu Lhakhang.
10 Departure from Paro
Morning at leisure before departure flight.
